How do you keep your salespeople focused?

This time of year can be stressful for some of your sales team. Between kid’s summer schedules, family vacations and sunny weather, employees can easily be distracted. Follow any one of these 4 tips to help keep your salespeople focused this summer.

 1.) Communicate clearly

A quick stand-up meeting a couple of times a week that touches base with staff is very important. No need to micromanage. However, they need to know your expectations and you need to know their frustrations. Make sure everyone’s duties are clearly spelled out.

2.)¬†Encourage your employee’s well-being

RetailWire put out a list of things employees should take care of. It includes everything from wearing the right shoes to paying attention to their personal relationships. As you show your workers kindness, they will do the same for you. Make sure you’ve scheduled time this summer to celebrate your staff. Pool parties with hot dogs and hamburgers, bowling or a champagne brunch says you’re as important to me as our customersThe Wellbeing Wheel.

3.) Flexible scheduling

When employees know the business owner is willing to be flexible with work hours, they’re more likely to be on task for the hours they’ve chosen. Although a flexible time clock can be a scheduling nightmare, offering your employees the opportunity to switch up their work hours has been shown to increase productivity. Millennials and Generation Z in particular respond to flex time. In fact, according to a University of Minnesota study, flexible hours actually reduced stress and work-family conflicts for most employees.

4.) Don’t forget to have fun!

It is the summer of fun after all. Be creative! Buy all of your employees big funky sunglasses, Hawaiian shirts or straw hats. Pick a day of the week, such as Wacky Wednesday and have your sales team get creative with their attire. Play summer music in your shop. Encourage your employees to take their vacations and then post a few of their photos in the back room. Building a team mentality makes employees much more conscious of their work.

Of course, it’s hard to build a team if you don’t have the right players. Read 5 Traits of Highly Effective Resale Salespeople.
